Location is the foundation of Enjoy CN's navigation features. We use your precise GPS
coordinates to provide turn-by-turn directions, display nearby restaurants and attractions, give you real-time
transit information, and help the AI make location-aware recommendations (e.g., "find the best hot pot
restaurant within walking distance").
When We Access It
Only while you are actively using the app (foreground access)

Real-time session only. Saved locations you explicitly bookmark.

Navigation and location-based features will not work.
💡 Tip: Choose "While Using the App" when prompted — this gives us
location access only when the app is open, not when it's running in the background.
Microphone access enables our voice-powered features: speak naturally in your language and
get instant Chinese translation, use voice commands to navigate hands-free, and have spoken conversations
translated in real time. This is especially useful when communicating with locals or ordering at restaurants.

Only when you tap the microphone button in the app

Nothing. Audio is processed and immediately discarded after translation.

You can still use all text-based translation and typing features.
💡 Tip: If you're in a very noisy environment, type your query instead —
our text translation is just as accurate.
Camera access powers our most popular feature: point your camera at any Chinese text — a
restaurant menu, street sign, product label, or document — and see an instant translation overlaid on your
screen in real time using augmented reality (AR). We also use the camera for QR code scanning at tourist sites
and transit stations.
When We Access It
Only when you open the camera translation feature
What We Store
Nothing. Camera frames are processed on-device and not uploaded.
Processing Location
Primarily on your device (on-device OCR for speed and privacy)
Without This Permission
You can upload photos from your gallery for translation instead.
💡 Tip: The AR camera translation works best in good lighting. For dark
restaurant menus, try the photo upload option instead.
Photo library access lets you select existing images — photos of menus, documents, signs, or
screenshots — for translation. This is useful when you've already taken a photo and want to translate it
later, or when the camera feed is not available.

Only when you tap "Choose from Library" in the translation feature

Only the specific photo(s) you select — never your entire library

Nothing. Images are processed for translation then discarded.
Without This Permission
Use the live camera translation feature instead.
💡 Tip: On iOS, you can grant "Selected Photos" access to limit the app
to only photos you explicitly choose, rather than your full library.
We may send you helpful travel notifications such as reminders about saved itinerary items,
transit departure alerts, nearby attraction updates, and important safety information. Notifications are
infrequent and only sent when genuinely useful.

An internet connection is required to load live maps, run AI chat queries, perform
translation, fetch transit schedules, and provide real-time recommendations. Offline map downloads (premium
feature) work without a connection after the initial download.

~5–20 MB/hour typical usage. Map downloads vary by area.

How to manage permissions
You can change any permission at any time from your device's native Settings. Enjoy CN does not require you to
reinstall the app — changes take effect immediately.
